A late-night house fire in Stow, Ohio, has left one person dead following an intense emergency response involving multiple fire departments.
According to officials, the Stow Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 10:50 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, to a working fire at a two-story split-level home on Darrow Road. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames, with significant fire involvement at the rear of the residence.
Firefighters forced entry through the front of the home and began an aggressive interior attack. During initial search operations, an adult male victim was located on the second floor. Crews quickly removed the individual from the structure and initiated CPR along with advanced life-support measures on the front lawn before transporting the victim to a nearby hospital. Despite those efforts, the victim later died from injuries sustained in the fire.
Authorities confirmed that no additional victims were found after multiple searches of the home, including primary, secondary, and tertiary sweeps.
Firefighters from Stow were assisted by crews from Kent and Hudson, who worked together to bring the blaze under control, extinguish hot spots, and secure utilities throughout the structure. Additional suppression efforts were required in both the basement and garage areas.
During the operation, firefighters were also able to rescue two dogs from inside the home.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Stow Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office is working alongside the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office and Stow Police Department detectives to determine what led to the incident. The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Stow, Kent, Hudson, and Munroe Falls fire departments, as well as the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office and Stow Police Department.
Officials expressed their condolences to the victim’s family and acknowledged the coordinated efforts of all responding agencies involved in the emergency response.
